It is like particular scenery oering arefreshing aspect, seen from far away. There is a saying that you cannot see the wood for the trees. This isan example of holistic perspectives. Some westerners point out that through holistic viewpoints they candiscover something new which they couldn’t see through individual analytical viewpoints. Mary: “I used to pursue immediate benets, and I tried to increase my own interests in group projects. When I took a Japanese perspective workshop, I have learned to look at a situation from a broaderperspective and began to consider how things would benet both of us. Then, negotiations have broughtbetter results to us.” Jack: “I’m working in the Vitamins and Dietary Supplements industry. I don’t just suggest that myclients take health supplements. I take a holistic approach. I encourage them to avoid oily food, have a lotof vegetables, get some exercise and then take health supplements. Green tea is one example of a healthsupplement that can help calm people down and also might help prevent cancer.” Joe: “I’m a therapist. Western counselors tend to make clients describe their problems by words intherapy. After I learned about holistic viewpoints, I found out that it is more eective for some clients toparticipate in certain activities together without depending only on verbal communication. For example,I ask my clients to move their body, draw pictures and participate in psychodrama.” These facts are very impressive¹ because learning about Japanese viewpoints can be a breakthroughto each problem Westerners face. Westerners have become aware of their own cultural limitations and haveapplied holistic viewpoints to a variety of occupations.
